Stylte Signe: A goofy interview

At the Pump Station, there's plenty of fun and games going on. From climbing to gaming, and a new addition to the many activities is Stylte Signe. She comes and gets the theatrical activities going in her own goofy way. Children's reporter Elisabeth Engel interviewed Stylte Signe to find out what the mischief brings.

What made you become a jester?

"I don't really know if I could help it. It was such a short answer. I couldn't help it, I was attracted to it, and that was probably because I had tried it. I'd seen what it did. It has such a big effect, I think, on the world and for myself."

What do you do as a Jester?

"I do a lot. You can walk on stilts and make characters that are kind of extreme. So I might replace my face with latex noses, big ears or big eyelashes. I also do a lot of make-up, so I really transform myself. But as a juggler, I surprise a lot. I surprise myself. I might surprise the people watching. So there's a sense that it's beyond the everyday. To come up with things that are simply different and do it on purpose so that we can be shaken up a bit. If we look at everyday life, we might do the same things over and over again. There's a bit of a box. So something about just breaking it when you play a role. It's really liberating for me, and then I'm not stuck in one thing. God, imagine if I could play all things. It's exciting."

What do you enjoy learning the most?

"It's that I can't teach you anything. Everyone can play and everyone has their imagination and everyone likes to use it. But if I put a suitcase out, it's used. Then I can see that someone is learning something they didn't realise they could. Then we think we can't keep our balance, or do a somersault or something. Then we get really excited when we realise that I can actually do that. I especially like it when someone figures something out with each other. It's not always easy to look everyone in the eye. It requires something of us. We don't know what's going to happen. But if I'm always the one in charge and I'm always the one who's absolutely sure. Then it can also get a bit boring, because then I might just be repeating myself. So every time there's an interaction about the game. "
