There was a business angel, rabbits with long ears, a zebra, police officers, old ladies and gentlemen with canes, sixpence and knitwear, and many more imaginative costumes, when the children of Pumpestation had a party just before the winter holidays. Read a report from the party written by children's reporters Asta and Signe here.
On Friday 9 February, there was a Shrovetide party at the Pump Station. There were many great costumes. There was a barrel fight inside the football cage, and the children were divided by class and gender. After the barrel smashing, Laila served hot chocolate and carnival buns in the kitchen. Cat kings and queens were crowned from each year group, and some of the children also received prizes for their costumes. Børnereporterne was at the party, where we interviewed the three children who received awards for their beautiful homemade costumes. The winners each received two cinema tickets as prizes.
THE FUN COSTUME: Charlie - Gertrud Sand with her beloved food processor
I got the idea after watching The Advent Calendar with my grandparents, who moved back to Denmark from Canada, where they have lived for 43 years. So they didn't know The Advent Calendar or Gertrud Sand. We already had the wig. The petticoat is my grandmother's, and the bra and petticoat are my mum's. The socks inside the bra are my father's. The cardigan is my sister's, and the glasses are my sister's old sunglasses.
THE COMPLETED COSTUME: Asta - Cloud with raindrops
I first thought about making a cotton candy costume, but then I came up with a better idea. I wanted to be a cloud with raindrops. The costume is made of cotton wool and teddy bear stuffing and took a whole day to make. I made the raindrops out of felt and put crowns inside them to weigh them down. I also put fairy lights in the cloud.
Favourite crafting couple: Emily and Ingrid - The married couple Ingegert and Ole
We had agreed that we would do something together and something fun. And we thought about being something from the old days. We ended up being an old married couple because we thought it was fun. Emily aka Ingegert: I borrowed the hat from my sister and the dress is my mum's from when she was little. The knitting needles are my own. Ingrid aka Ole: I was Egon Olsen last year for Shrovetide, so I already had the jacket. The tie is my dad's and I bought the beard in Tiger.
